Veteran artist Jan Rae has spent time in India and Italy
to create something that is in between and yet connecting
in all cultures with her Buddha Series.
She describes her work as "Classical sculptural form trying
to get the weight and solidity of the image. Its ethereal,
all about the devine. Peaceful faces."
They are oils on large textured mat board. This material
she uses is made in India from recycled rags.
Jan is one of the 3 women (also with Geraldine Searles and
Niki Neon) who designed, constructed and painted the public
art mural story on the front of our community centre over
a decade ago, now an icon of Byron.
Soon a new building will be put in its place...they will
be recycling the mural onto the new structure.
Her art lasts. Some of her series are on display at the Commerford
Gallery in Byron Bay.
