We are blessed in this country in that when we speak against
our prime minister or criticise a senior councillor officer
in public we probably won’t be awoke in the middle of
the next night by police and bundled off to the local underground
torture centre.

A lot of people in this world will never know a less cruel
and unjust system. So we must in a democracy give thanks for
what we do enjoy. However we should remember that within our
2000 year old democratic tradition it is the duty
of the citizen to question.
Socrates most likely did not have to end his life as early
as he was pressured into if he would have just agreed to shut
up and stop asking so many darn questions. But he stated to
his principles that “A life without examination is
not worth living’’ and swallowed the Hemlock.
Someone in Byron could make some good money by conducting
tours to demonstrations.... such events are part of our culture
ever since the early seventies when a group of surfers and
friends gathered outside the council to protest against the
cutting down of the giant fig trees which ran the length of
Lawson street providing great shade in the summer. The council
workers at that time just laughed at us and cut em down .
Times have changed hey?
