If Becton moved the Sunnybrand chicken farm 10km away from Byron Bay then I think they should be allowed.
Over the past 3 years I have worked in the Industrial Estate and the smell is way overwhelming to be close to residential or industrial estate and with the new multimedia college just about to started, would not be a good showcase for Byron Bay having creative people being choked by the chook fumes . |

Just wondered if anyone knows who I need to contact with regard to the Becton development plans.
I am looking to get in touch with the main group that is opposing this development. Does anyone known the name of this group and who the key organisers are?
Thank you

IMO i dunno why poeple are sooking (I suppose they have got the time too) theres not really that much of a problem, itll deffintly bring some more much needed money to our loca area, mabey fix up our roads from town to suffo coz they sux0r and also bring a lot of good jobs (Much needed in byron)
and thell make a rail from sunrise into town so i could get from work (industrial) to town without having to go throught the crappy traffic.
who cares about a couple of dumb birds.. they are not gonna go extinct becuase of a devoplment.. sure they might loose a few home but there coastline goes on for ages im sure they can find new homes.. |

Thanks again Guest - your insightful (incite-ful?) response has proffered some food for thought. However, as after a crappy chinese meal, I am already hungry again - perhaps I could roast a couple of those "dumb birds" (bad joke ok - I'm being sarcastic).

Do you even know what you are talking about?..How about you think of things on a larger scale. For example, you think the traffic is bad in Byron right now. What the hell do you think is going to happen when the residents of the new 367 houses move in and start driving around Byron?..You won't be able to move.. Garaunteed if the development goes ahead, Byron will lose everything it is known for..Next thing you know it will become the next Lismore or Ballina, that may appeal to you but if it happens, locals will start losing their jobs because tourists will stop coming. People will move away and what you once new to be your faithful home town will become nothing more than a couple of streets sporting a macdonalds, kfc, shopping mall and a few novelty stores selling makeshift incense!!! |

Hey, you might lose the chook fumes, but it will be at the cost of losing Byron as well..Just think about whether it's really worth it or not, before you show your support... |

Yeah, losing Byron as we now know it.. It just won't be the same place once big businesses realise they are able to buy the community off and move themselves into town.. Like I said, it will just end up sporting all the franchise of companies the residents of Byron have loathed and fought to keep out for many years...
Oh, and for any of you who might just think I must be some middle aged greenpeace activist or anything,i'm not.I am simply an 18 year old girl from the area who is aware of the possibilites.. I would like to think that everyones voice counts...
P.S... I would like to hear some of your thoughts on the whole thing, "obisghost", if that is possible.. cheers.. |

| hey Jada - I will respond. And I take your point, I only just realised I had actually never offered my view point here. I do have one and will proffer it when I have more time (and am not at work). |

Coastal eco-resort development rejected
By Sean Nicholls
June 24, 2004
A plan to build a $100 million eco-resort at Byron Bay has been rejected by the NSW Government - the second time in a decade a developer has failed to gain permission for a tourist resort on the coastal site.
But the decision, by the Planning Minister, Craig Knowles, is being viewed as only a temporary setback for the Melbourne-based company Becton, which is likely to continue to pursue the development.
Mr Knowles said yesterday he would not adopt Becton's draft masterplan to build the 379-unit resort because it was unlikely to be allowed under the Government's coastal protection policy. |

| As a person in the US wanting to go over there i wouldnt mind a new place being built with a big garage, but then id be going nowhere different, cause then it loses the reason for me wanting to move there in the first place. Personally i think that the dumb birds also got enough hurting from recent devlopments that where pointed out in other towns and i bet there are not just birds though i dont know of all the different animals it might also hinder, dont you agree? well as i said i disagree with comapny plan and glad it was rejected. |

I hope you folks realise I was being sarcastic in my reply regarding the "dumb birds". I love birds - really (and not just for dinner).
How could I not? Check out my Dad's website. www.seabirdrescue.org |

I'm glad to hear about the knock back, it means a lot to the Byron community, (weather all of you realise it or not).
I am also glad that you can see my point of view about this whole thing "Obisghost", and I look foward to hearing a little more of your thoughts about it all in the not too distant future...
Take care all.. |
