| Looking to move to Byron area - November 2004. If anyone has any info on accomodation (I have a 4 y.o dog) and work available (recommended websites for local employment?) it would be much appreciated. I would be looking for office/admin/retail etc. and my partner is a bulider/carpenter. |

| Hi Ive got some great advice, try somewhere new. Everyone is moving here and to be honest it's a little on the crowded side. Actually it's not so much the quantity of new people it's just that there so boring. Byron was kind of created and kind of evolved by an unconcious convergence of people with similar values and beliefs. there was a cause, it's not yours and it's far to hard to talk about without yawning. so, be a love and bugger off. |

Oh Robin - You're right, Australia is a big country so why don't you move somewhere else? Why bother posting messages if all you're going to do is piss on other people's hopes and dreams?
Try being constructive or find another forum to haunt.

Thanks Robin, Yeah. I figured I'd get a reply like this. I don't want to over crowd your space. I understand where you're coming from completely. I grew up in a beautiful quiet friendly place that has since been taken over by wealth, greed and snobs and we were hoping to move to a place that is similar to what we had before. We would also like to make a contribution to the community and the environment - wherever we may end up. Thanks for your support Robin - You've really made my day....
P.S - But I honestly
thank you for your support Obi - truly appreciated xxx |

Hey Jessea244 - accommodation is harder to find with dogs in tow. It is possible to find a place though. One of the Bayweb forum members (Elle) managed to move up from Melbourne with her partner and two dogs. She also now has a full time admin job with Bayweb and Bayweb's sister businesses (who shall remain anonymous).
Rent will be around 250-300 for a house with a yard for your dog.
keep an eye out at echo.net.au for jobs in the classifieds section. there was labouring work advertised there this week. They also list short and long term rentals.
good luck. |

Howdy,
Well since I am being used as a shining example I thought I best give some helpful tips!!
After what seemed to be an up hill battle I finally found my home by placing an add in the Echo - stating that we had not 1 but 2 large dogs and we were willing to pay so much and gave a brief description of what we wanted in a home. I had about 8 replies and they were all positive - in fact the lady I rent my house through also helped us with a house for my mother.
Best advice I can give by far is not to listen to anyone who thinks it is ok to bring you down with there negative attitude - Just keep smiling and stay positive!
Oh and in regards to employment, the best way I found to get work is by getting yourself known. I sent both mine and my partner’s resumes along with a profile of who we are to every business I could find in the local area. As well as posting on "Bayweb". I was lucky enough to find something before I arrived, my partner is still looking but it wont be to long before he will be working. Although people will say that Byron has the lowest employment rate etc… My partner has actually found looking for work here uplifting, because most people in this area will give you the time of day, and will actually show interest in what you do and who you are.
Anyway… I hope this is of some help…. Feel free to private message me if you wish to ask me anything.
Cheers
~Elle~ |

There are never too many(less than 115,000 registered voters between Tweed and Ballina last time I started raving about voter apathy)Open the flood gates and let everyone pour over us. We want you, we need you. Without the diversity that new arrivals bring towns like Byron would suffocate. Besides my kids need more playmates, there just aren't enough in town, so encourage your mates to come as well.
Don't be wary of the mutt, because of the dearth of rural property around you'll be accomodated soon enough(just make sure they are secure at night and early morning, domestic pets play havoc with the delicate systems that surround the shire.
Peace up your self |

I also received the same negative advice from Robin and it is definitely heartening to read the wonderful supportive comments that people have posted! Goodluck with you search for a home, I believe that there's room for all of us with a little respect and dignity! Olive |

| Had lunch with Nikki Fuda on the weekend, the exodus continues. So many from the Byron Shire moving down here, it's just like home. OK it's nothing like home but it sure is cosy. I can't wait to get together with Olive and Jessica in Jan 2005 for a few Steam Whistles and jokes. |
